The First International EMP (Earth Microbiome Project) Conference
June 13th-15th 2011, Shenzhen China
On behalf of EMP steering committee, it is our great honor to invite you to attend the “The First International EMP Conference” organized by the BGI (formerly known as Beijing Genomics Institute), to be held from June 13th-15th 2011, in Shenzhen China.
To understand microbes (Bacterial, Archaeal, Eukaryal and Viral) in terms of whom they are and what they do is the challenge of microbial ecology. The Earth Microbiome Project (www.earthmicrobiome.org) presents a revolution in how we tackle this problem and defines both questions and potential suite of tools to provide answers. The EMP will provide a quantum leap in our ability to interrogate this community through a truly global collaborative project.
As the main conference organizer, BGI (http://www.genomics.cn/en) has been taking part in the MetaHIT project as part of the 7th EU Framework Programme, which aims to study the genomes of the bacteria constituting the human intestinal flora in order to characterize its functions and implications on health. With numerous projects experiences, BGI has established technical platforms based on large-scale genome sequencing and efficient bioinformatics analyses and been one of the leading genomics institutes in the world.
We are confident that, with both your active participation, the conference will be a scientifically rewarding and enjoyable experience, providing an opportunity to promote genome-related research on microbes by active communication and building collaborative networks between disciplines and continents.
The BGI conference team (meeting@genomics.org.cn) will do their best to assist your routing during the meeting and inform you of the detailed schedule. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us
We look forward to meeting you at Shenzhen!
