调制叶绿素荧光(PAM)技术做为测量微藻、大藻、水生植物光合作用的最简便有效的方法,在国际水生生物学与海洋生物学界得到了非常广泛的应用。主要应用领域包括藻类生理学、藻类生态学、海洋学、湖沼学、水域生态学、藻华研究、浮游植物生态学、大洋生态学、潮间带生态学、珊瑚研究、湿地生态学、底栖藻类研究、消落带生态研究、藻类毒理学、环境科学、污染生态学、突变株筛选、微藻生物技术、全球变化研究等等,发表了大量高水平文献。
